As the sun sets on this July 2020 evening over Hoek van Holland beach, the Netherlands, the golden North Sea forms a thankful backdrop for humans and non-humans alike.
Liberation Day
The 5th of May is Liberation Day in the Netherlands. The country celebrates it has been freed of Nazi-Germany in 1945. In Wageningen, where the German troops surrendered to the Dutch, the festivities include an historic parade. My series from 2007.

Waiting for the Queen
Every third Tuesday of September the Dutch head of state holds the Throne Speech, the State of the Union of the Netherlands. It is preluded by a carriage tour from the royal working palace in The Hague to the Hall of Knights on parliament grounds. The Day of Prinses, as it is officially known, was led by Queen Beatrix until 2012. Series taken in 1996, 17 years before her son took over as king.
