The great thing about crossing Europe on long distance road travelling is that one has to stop somewhere on the way to take a break. And this is how I ended up in the village of Allagen, more or less in the centre of Germany, in summer 2024. Since 1975 the once independent municipality is part of the bigger Warstein - known by beer lovers for its local produce.
Following the Möhne river
With the sun setting on this August day, a nearby former railroad turned into a foot and cycle path was as a nice escape to stretch the legs. Some parts of the path flow in parallel with the tiny Möhne river, while it takes just a little bit of distance from the water stream further west. The watermill about 2 kilometres from the not noteworthy centre of the village of Allagen is a nice turnaround spot.
