Inside the largest chamber of the Wieliczka Salt Mine, September 2026

Wieliczka is a town a stone's throw away from Kraków. It has a small centre, it has hills and most importantly, it has an amazing salt mine that is UNESCO World Heritage. The mine has nine levels and goes as deep as 327 metres (1,073 feet) below the surface. But as a tourist you will not get deeper than 135 metres (443 feet).
However, a visit to the salt mine is absolutely worth. Image to be Indiana Jones or Lara Croft, or just you. It is impressive! Below a series of photos of my September 2026 visit to the Kopalni Soli „Wieliczka”.

Horses were essential for heavy work in the mine. They stayed 6 years underground, while the miners went up every day.
