A cute small town and the gateway to the famous Krka National Park and its waterfalls: Skradin is a very nice stop during a journey through Croatia. It had its glory days during the 17th century as part of the Republic of Venice empire, but lost its importance when nearby Šibenik - located closer to the sea - rose to fame in the 18th century.
And that is exactly why Skradin is a great stop. Most tourist flock to other areas of Croatia, or use Skradin only as a stop-over to get quickly to the Krka National Park - making Skradin an easy-going town with its own city beach, marina, narrow streets, restaurants, fortress ruin, centrepiece church tower and colourful orange roofed houses.
These photos series are from my first visit to Skradin, late on 1 July 2024.
