A chappel in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska
I came to know Kalwaria Zebrzydowska during a road trip through the countryside around Kraków as the "village of the bridge of angels". Archangels to be exact. Taking the world around him from his castle in Lanckorona, Crown Grand Marshall Mikołaj Zebrzydowski saw fit to build a monastery, modelled after the Cavalry in Jerusalem at the time. That was the beginning of the 17th Century and the Cavalry of Zebrzydowski was translated into Polish as Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. And ever since the village (4,500 souls in 2025) has been a destination for pilgrims. The monastery itself looks cool (the Three Kings celebration during my visit prevented me of entering it this time), but in the lower lands around it, a lot of other religious stuff can be found. Including chappels, churches and the bridge of arch angels. Photos all taken on 6 January 2025.
