A crazy city plan, sand-coloured stone houses built on top of each other. Running from the valley up to the top of the hills. Ancient Matera, in Italy's south, is capturing.
Matera's history is not as bright as its current. Diseases spread like wildfire, and poverty of its inhabitants made its post-WW2 years that bad, that the central government of Italy decided to move all people out of the city in the 1950s.
Nowadays it is a delight to wander around, and see the light changing the colours and shapes of this magnet in the Basilicata region. Series made during the final days of 2021.
