There are a few places in Central and Eastern Europe that have a great collection of Cold War aviation relics. In Poland, there are two: the Polish Aviation Museum in Kraków and the Air Force Museum in Dęblin. While the former is located on a former airbase, the latter is located at the edge of a still active base, home of the Polish Air Force Academy (Lotnicza Akademia Wojskowa), the "School of Eaglets" and the 4th Training Air Win.
Aviation history at Dęblin, located about 92 kilometres (57 miles) southeast of the centre of the Polish capital of Warsaw (Warszawa), goes back to almost a century ago. The stars of the museum's collection include many types of Lim fighter jet — the Polish licence-built version of Russian MiG-15s and MiG-17s, and some of the Polish-built Mil helicopters. But there is more.
I visited the museum in Dęblin in August 2025 and some of the helicopters and planes I saw in active duty during my second every visit to Poland more than two decades ago.
