View over Kraków on a fresh January day
I have been taking photos ever since my uncle and aunt inspired me to buy my first DSL at the age of 16. I was born in Holland, moved to the eastern part of the Netherlands, immigrated to Sweden. Here I wrote a travel guide book as thick as a brick about my new home country, was a news and radio correspondent and was a teacher in Swedish schools. 15 years after settling in the land of the Vikings, I popped over to the southern side of the Baltic Sea, and found my third home in Kraków, Poland. The third time's the charm.
The last post of this month is a throw-back to 2003, when 5-megapixel compact cams were the new thing in consumer photography. I found my way during a misty morning in Schipluiden, near Delft in the Netherlands.

Westland: misty Schipluiden | the Netherlands
31 January 2026: Administration-wise, Schipluiden is the capital of the Municipality of Midden-Delfland, as of 2004. Before that it was its own municipality in the Westland region. Back in 2003, when 5-megapixel compact cameras were the new thing in consumer photography, I took one on a misty morning with me on my way to work and stopped in Schipluiden for a brief moment.
Ojców National Park, near Kraków | Poland
25 January 2026: a few new photos added • Ojców is like stepping into some sort of Narnia. A little north of the city, the village and surrounding national park are, especially in summer, a popular day escape from Kraków.
Air Force Museum in Dęblin | Poland
24 January 2026 • There are a few places in Central and Eastern Europe that have a great collection of Cold War aviation relics. In Poland, the Air Force Museum in Dęblin is one of them. The stars of the museum's collection include many types of Lim fighter jet — the Polish licence-built version of Russian MiG-15s and MiG-17s, and some of the Polish-built Mil helicopters. But there is more.
Pelješac| Croatia
11 January 2026 • The Pelješac peninsula, at the southern Dalmatian coast of Croatia, in summer is like a little paradise on earth. Warm swim-friendly waters, lushy green bays, small beaches and—depending on where you choose to land—not too many tourists.
Warszawa (Warsaw) | Poland
4 January 2026 • Warszawa (Warsaw) is not only the capital, it is the most cosmopolitan city of Poland. Here you will find Europe's tallest skyscraper—if one leaves out Moscow, the country's financial centre, some of the best restaurants for vegetarians and loads of venues to have fun. It is also the place for Europe's architectural equivalent to the Empire State Building in New York: the Palace of Culture and Science (Pałac Kultury i Nauki).
